Fall down the hole, though be careful of the spikes to the sides. Go through the level normally until you reach the "Getting here is half the fun" screen (the very last screen at the bottom with the yellow-ish background). Title of screen with trinket: "Doing things the hard way" Use the now moving platform to get the trinket. Now you can just kill yourself by touching the spikes near you so that you'll now be at the original checkpoint. Now the other blue platform will be able to move left and right. Touch the blue platform so that it will disappear. Be careful of the conveyor belts, as they will usually make you either fall off or touch one of the checkpoints. On Shenanigan, fall towards the left side of the first conveyor belt, then flip to the right side of the second conveyor belt, then flip to the hole below. Then just flip your way to the right without touching the checkpoint. On Down Under, fall upwards so that you're on the bottom of the moving platform, and then move quickly to the right so that you don't hit the spikes. If one comes near you, just flip to the other side, then fall upwards. Time your jump right so that you'll be on the platforms near them. On the next screen to the left, there will be two red enemies moving left and right. If you touch any of the checkpoints ahead, you have to go all the way back and touch the first checkpoint mentioned. The key to getting this trinket is to not touch any of the checkpoints ahead. When you get to Prize for the Reckless, touch the checkpoint that's on the ceiling. Title of screen with trinket: "Prize for the Reckless" These include beating the game with a certain amount of deaths, earning specific ranks in time trials, and how long you can survive "The Gravitron" (which is in the lab). The Secret Lab is an area where your VVVVVV "trophies" are stored by completing certain tasks. ![]() Just talk to Viola (the person in the trinket room on your ship) once you've found all of the trinkets and you'll be teleported there. 20 - Pipe Dream, ecroF evitisoPĬollect all 20 trinkets and you'll gain access to the secret lab.The following amount of trinkets unlocks the following songs: In your main ship, in the top middle room, you'll be able to listen to the games soundtrack depending on how many trinkets you've collected. ![]() If you collect a certain amount of trinkets as well as rescue certain crew members, you'll be able to unlock time trials for various levels. They are usually very difficult to obtain. They are not required for completing the main story although they unlock some extra goods within the game. But really, all the bells and whistles are just gravy because VVVVVV is, still to this day, one of the best platformers in recent memory.Trinkets are collectable items that are hidden throughout the game. The Switch’s addition of a two-player mode fits the scope of the system nicely even if it feels a tiny bit out of place. The main mode, while short in length and quite challenging, is excellent and the bonus levels and options add more to the package. VVVVVV is a fantastic game, and it’s at its console best on Switch. Nestled in the settings are some other novel options, including analogue mode, which changes the display to that of an old TV. ![]() An array of unlocks for game completion are also available, but they can also be unlocked without game completion if it’s too hard for you or you already played through it and just want to access the bonus content. The guest-created levels that have appeared in past versions are here as well, with one from future Switch developer Matt Thorson (of Celeste and TowerFall fame). Co-op play is more novelty than anything else, but still makes for a neat addition. The Switch version debuts a two-player mode that works well with Joy-Con. VVVVVV makes up for its shorter length by just being so damn polished and fun. A first-time playthrough might take two or three hours, especially if you try to collect all the hidden trinkets. I don’t think it’s a drag, but I also have played the game a few times before this release (granted though, I haven’t played it since sometime in 2012). A frequent checkpoint system lessens the frustration, but a lot of trial and error does crop up. The going does get tough, so much so that in the hour and change I spent romping through the main adventure, I racked up hundreds of deaths. The feel of moving around the world, presented as an open world with discrete built-in levels, is joyous. ![]() This is used for a variety of platforming challenges that increase in complexity with the addition of twists, such as mid-air lines that switch your gravity and scrolling screens. The hook is that the player character Captain Viridian can change his gravity, flipping up and down at the press of a button. If you’ve heard nothing about VVVVVV over the years, here’s the lowdown: it’s a retro-styled platformer without a jump button.
